Blue lit path
by léni de la brisa
buried among bones and sapphire lace
gold, copper, bronze—eyes stare at my soft skin
and in winds so sinister, eyelashes flutter
and grasses shake and tussle
reason and love lost among the tall grasses
as if with the pollen, they lost their way
with nothing but the light of moons full and round
starving wolves walk those forgotten paths
ignited into cold flames—blue—they weep
and when their wailings fill the air, they cling
and hang in the trees, in intoxicated blues
they sparked, chills and in twilight’s breeze
echoes of suffering dug into my spine, parasites
willing me their shares, their loads—without remorse
it wasn’t my intention to want so much more
but left me wandering the night, empty of thought,
echoes of footsteps on paths lit to follow
waking dreams, where the eternal eyes guard
in blue light until only their memory and
the footsteps of those came before remained
beyond the start, path’s alight where they sneer
I plead, but stone and metal turns away
no calls from where moon watches over paths beyond
but into cold flame, over blue fires my soul is pulled
and when I singe, they hide my path and my bones collapse,
forgotten
