Star-eater
by léni de la brisa
From the edge of sleep in bed,
crashing into my room, the stars ran away
from their celestial homes—rushing toward me,
you see, I watched
the stars of my dreams,
elated—beyond their limits,
materializing before me
their magic, their light
grazing, not the heavens, but—
my heart!
I am the eater of magic—the eater of light
they burned and stole away my slumber—
my breath!
oh, these fallen stars
captivating—it’s their own fault
laid upon my pillows like little gifts
fated to fall to me,
brought down just for me
and with their burning,
they kiss my face—their fires,
little loves, so delicate
I am the eater of kisses—the eater of fires
surely, they mean to steal me away
with their laughs enchanting
yes, I know what they want,
but oh, how could I forget—
I am sensitive to fire, I am sensitive to love
no, if only they knew, both, them and I,
are only for myself, until they turn cold,
these dead stars upon my bed
I stole away their warmth
beside each other, my little gifts—
my little icy graves, these celestial ruins
you see, it’s no one’s fault but their own
now, look into my eyes, I am starving
I am the eater of stars, I am the eater of love
