Find us
by léni de la brisa
Come with me, this trail of beasts is fitting for us—our savage words, our twisted faces panting.
Paths of pine needles, purple fungus, and breath were laid out just for you, my dear. It's a mystery
what we are, never to be solved as our passion dissolves into another secret in the past, and another
in the future. When we meet where you made the stars. It cracks opens and spills out your silver life-
blood, as if your desire had a will stronger than your needs.
And in my hands I hold you and your secrets, trees loom and stare—
they move the air where I take them and you.
But the beasts have gone hunting—their kill, softly, gasping—and berries must watch as madness
and secrets pour out of us, onto sacred moss; our bodies land, lichen-infested hair, wildflowers grown
and in full bloom from our chests. Our fingers reach out from within the dead—on the hills, trees lying
and whispering. Our soft smiles made for each other—these canines glistening and nectar dripping—until
the never-ending bleeding tells us that we have found each other. Again. Until we turn feral.
Again and again, we return to our past until we meet our decay.
